Living life with greater awareness (2): the power of visualization
Visualization as a tool to help you to live the life of your dreams
It’s a lovely April Saturday afternoon and I came down to the river to dig deeper within myself and to check and reflect on where I am heading in life. That is to connect with myself and take the time to ask myself what I want to do with my life, if I am staying true to my values and what next steps I need to take to live up to my dream vision.
I realized the importance of this check-in after a few weeks of being super busy and just allowing the business to take control over my life, which resulted in me being sick and my body forcing me to slow down, take time for myself and go within. Since then, I reintroduced something that has been forgotten and am very grateful for that!
The power of visualization
To create the life of my dreams, I practice visualization. Once you get it, it’s a simple yet powerful technique to attract what you want into your life. I’ve been using this technique since I was 17 years old. At that time, I came across the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, where she explained the law of attraction, and to my surprise every time I use it, it really works!
Because… You attract what you think.
How to practice the law of attraction?
1. Connect with your heart to find out what you want
First, you need to know what you actually want to attract into your life. Is it better health, new, exciting job, loving relationships, more travelling or money?
To clarify your intentions, I recommend that in the moment when your mind has quieten and you are still (e.g. during your meditation practice, after yoga) bring your awareness to your heart centre and ask yourself:
- What do I want?
- Where do I want to be?
- How do I want to feel?
- With whom do I want to be?
(+ ask any other relevant questions that might help you to discover your intentions)
Let the heart come with the answer...
and just observe what’s coming up.
The more you practice connecting with your inner self (through meditation, yoga, etc.), finding out more about who you are and what you want, the easier it will be for you to connect with your heart to find your dreams and to follow them.
2. Write it down
Whatever came up during the meditation about your intentions or goals, capture it either in words or a visual form (drawing, making a collage, putting pictures together). When describing it, include as much detail as possible.
3. Visualize your goal/dream by using as many senses as you can
What is the journey toward the goal like? How do you feel when achieving it?
Imagine it and live it up. Experience all the feelings you have during completing your goal or living your dream.
Interestingly, science has demonstrated that your brain cannot tell the difference between a visualized image and reality.[1][2]
Live as if you have succeeded in your goal!
4. Be patient and trust
Let it go. Be patient with your path, believing that one day you will achieve your dream goal.
Stay open and be ready to accept whatever comes to your life :)
In addition, let go of attachment to the end result. Trust that your dream will come true one day. However, it is necessary that you take all the steps necessary to achieve it since non-action won’t bring any fruits.
Keep imagining it every day or as often as you can (best is during meditation).
So my friend, as Oprah Winfrey says, “Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe. ”
Visualization can be applied to anything from your health, to your dream work, relationships, lifestyle, and travelling.
Overall, we attract to our lives the things that we want, which are based on our thinking and feelings.
Become more aware of your thinking and feelings, and create the life you are truly passionate about.
